RIDING AND ROAD SAFETY AT BERRIEWOOD - 2009

With increasing traffic on our roads and numbers of horse-related accidents rising each year, it makes sense to be properly trained in riding on the road.  These courses help you to ride in the safest way possible and will also prepare you for the BHS Riding & Road Safety Test and the Pony Club Tests.  Courses are run by Mrs. Sue Lee, BHSAI/ISM (BHS Specialist R&RS Trainer/Examiner and Shropshire’s BHS Safety representative).  Test candidates are advised to complete a minimum of 6 hours training with a specialist Riding and Road Safety Trainer.

Training and Test Dates:     

            Training           Friday 7^th  & 14^th August                                6.15 pm to 9.15 pm

            Test                 Friday 21^st August                                          6.15 pm start

            Training           Saturday 24^th October                                     9 am to 12 noon

                                    Saturday 31^st October                                     9 am to 12 noon

            Test                 Saturday 31^st October                                     12.30 pm start

It may be possible to arrange additional training sessions with Sue if required.

Cost:   Training:          £85 for the full 6 hours, as required by the BHS. 

This cost includes hire of horse for training and test.

Alternatively, £45 if providing own horse.

            Test:                Currently £34 for BHS/RC members & under 16’s  (non-member £40)

To enrol on one of the training courses, please complete the form overleaf and return it, with the course fee, direct to Sue Lee.  In addition, to enter for the Riding and Road Safety test, you need to telephone the BHS on 01926 707782 to pay by credit card.  Please note that the BHS charge an extra £10 for late bookings (within 20 days).

It is important to read the current BHS Riding and Road Safety Manual before attending the course.  These are available from the BHS, from Sue Lee or from Berriewood – cost £5.95.  Also please note that candidates are now required to wear white or fluorescent gloves.
